Should you have any questions about BBIagent router or the software,
send messages to our technical
support. Following are the frequently asked questions.
You may find the answer here.

A. Router Installation
- Can I use two NICs with same model in
the router ?
Yes. The first NIC, which is detected as eth0 when the router
is booting up, should be connected to the LAN. You have to configure
different I/Os and IRQs of the NICs if they are ISA or EISA interface.
- Can I use one NIC connecting to both
LAN and WAN ?
No, this version cannot connect to the external network with the
same NIC for the external network.
- How do I set up the I/O and IRQ for my
NIC ?
You have to adjust the jumpers on the card or run its setup program
under DOS to configure them if it is ISA or EISA interface. The
driver of PCI NIC can probe the configuration automatically so
you only need to configure the BIOS of the mainboard to auto-IRQ
or assign proper IRQ for it.
- How to configure 3Com 3C509 NIC ?
You have to configure it with its setup program (3c5x9cfg.exe).
Disable PnP on the card if it cannot be detected correctly. While
running BBIagent Setup Wizard, leave blank for I/O and IRQ.
- Does it support more than one NICs for
the LAN ?
No, it only supports one NIC with one network segment in this
version.
- Does it support internal ADSL modem
?
If there is a driver supported for Linux kernel 2.4, it is possible
to support in the router.
- Can I increase the download speed if
there are more RAM in the router ?
No, it will support more concurrent links through the router if
you have more RAM installed.
- How many computers can be connected
to the router ?
You are able to define the number of computers you would like
to support with the subnet mask. With the default netmask is 255.255.255.0,
it supports 253 computers connecting to the router to share the
connection. It can be modified to support more computers. For
example, if the netmask is changed to 255.255.0.0, more than 60,000
computers can share the connection through the router.
- Can I boot it from a hard disk
?
No, this version is designed for floppy or CDROM boot only.
- Can I change its IP address ?
Yes, you can change it when creating the boot image file with
BBIagent Setup Wizard or BBIagent Explorer after the router is
booted up.
- How many network segments does it
supports ?
It only supports one network segment. If you have more than one
network segments, change the netmask of the router. For example,
if you have two network segments, 192.168.3.0/255.255.255.0 and
192.168.4.0/255.255.255.0, the netmask of the router can be changed
to 255.255.0.0 so that both segments can be connected to the router
for sharing.
B. Network Connection
- I cannot connect to the router with
BBIagent Explorer ?
The most common reason is that your computer is not in the same
network segment as the router. Check the TCP/IP configuration
of the network interface by running winipcfg.exe under
Windows 95/98/ME or ipconfig.exe under Windows NT. You
have to set the address of your client computer to 192.168.2.x,
where x represents any unused number between 2 and 254 if the
IP address of the router is 192.168.2.1. This can be done manually
or using DHCP. If the built-in DHCP does not assign an IP address
to your computer, try to manually configure it. The default gateway
should be the IP address of the router. Make sure you can ping
the router.
- I cannot open the web page of the
router ?
Read the answer of previous question above. Disable the "HTTP
Proxy" feature of your Web browser for the IP address of
the router if it's enabled.
- I can't make connection with PPPoE
?
Try to input user name and password only under Setup. Do not select
other options and click Connect button. If it show failure,
input debug in Options field, click Connect button
again. It will show more messages when making the connection.
If the LEDs of the DSL modem are not blinking when you click Connect
button, your NIC may not be configured properly.
- I can't obtain an IP address with DHCP
from my cable modem.
Release the IP address before switching the cable from other computer
to the router. Ensure that all of your cabling is properly connected.
Reset the modem, or power it down for a few seconds and turn it
back on. After the modem goes through its self-test, click Connect
button. You may have to enter the MAC address or host name under
Setup before clicking Connect button.
C. Router Operations
- How do I allow others to access my
server running the LAN ?
You have to add rule in Virtual Services for port forwarding.
Refer to the user guide for Virtual
Services.
- Can I restrict all computers but
some specified ones to access the Internet ?
Add rules for the computers you allow to access first, then add
a rule at the end to restrict all for access. Refer to the user's
guide of Access
Control.
- I cannot send file with ICQ.
If you want to use ICQ Direct Send File, you have to add rules
in Virtual Services to open the ports for incoming event. Refer
to the example in the user's guide of Virtual
Services
- How fast is the router?
It depends mostly on the hardware you selected, especially the
NICs, and the line bandwidth you subscribed.
- My network application does not work after
I installed the router.
Check the web site of your application for information on using
it behind a firewall, gateway or proxy server. Many applications
have special configurations when they are run behind an NAT router.
